Burying the Hatchet

a swirling confluence of voices dances up through tree branches and into the white clouds where something in the wind gives my lungs new air my eyes new dizzy like shaman dreams i study your face all different-colored and strange-featured your clothing so strange we are closer even than in battle when horse against horse and knife against shield we thunderbreath anger into each other i study you now no anger not even fear something more intoxicating like sharp naked hope on an icy pink dawn or the first angry cry of a slippery wet newborn something new not familiar open to the arms of the sky like the chaos of holy ground we have heard each other’s shouts before warcries and screams the peeling off of attachment to life taunts to death and still those kinds of shouts are possible maybe probable but maybe these shouts we give today of dancing celebration sweet peace open hearts there is weariness in war i see it in your eyes now something i have never seen before in you never been so close to taking your hand we dance around this hole you in your uniform and I in mine the hole we’ve dug in this plaza holds the hatchet the arrows the swords the guns the horse and maybe our enmity distrust maybe our bets the other side would never change maybe also planted here the seeds of hope of fresh air human voice in this shout of desperation plea for peace this deepest longing to live without spilt blood i might be wrong we might forget this moment but still I shout my lungs the breadth of the sky my hunger for new strange friendship wide too we dance and shout together our families ways hearts swirling blending blossoming becoming some new graft of tree that sprouts and sings ah eh ah eh aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah eh a song of stubborn hoped peace a song of new beginnings
